Our Wedding

Our Story

These photos were taken in August on Mackinac Island, Michigan. For those new to Michigan:Mackinac (pronounced "MACK-in-aw", not "Mack-in-ack") Island is located in Lake Huron at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. It is unique, as it is completely car-free. Residents and tourists must travel everywhere by foot, bike, or even horse and carriage! Charles and Katie have travelled to Mackinac Island many times throughout their relationship, the first time being just a few months after starting dating! Charles visited often as a child while spending summers Up North in Bay Harbor and made sure to share the experience with Katie. It is a very special place to them both and it made perfect sense to have their photos taken there!

Engagement Photos

Our officiant, Spencer, has been our friend for over 10 years! Throughout many late nights studying in the Loyola library, navigating a comically tiny post-grad apartment he and Charles shared right before COVID hit, and many highs and lows beyond, the three of us have always stuck together. Katie actually asked Spencer to be Charles and her officiant over a year before getting engaged (only 1/2 joking)! The very first day after announcing our engagement, Spencer was researching how to get ordained. We are so grateful (and only slightly nervous) to hear what he comes up with!

Zoe and Katie met freshman year of college right after joining their sorority and never looked back. By the end of sophomore year, they agreed to live together with their friend Lauren as roommates when they moved off campus. Through some "unique circumstances" while Zoe and Lauren went to Rome for study abroad and put Katie in charge of apartment hunting (a risky decision on their end), they ended up with 3 unexpected additional roommates in a grungy 6 bedroom apartment on Glenwood Ave in Rogers Park. One of these roommates was Charles. Though Charles and Katie had been close friends for 2 years at this point, did not meet until move-in day. Luckily, due to a shared love of film, Zoe and Charles became fast friends. In the years after the character-building experience of sharing their first "grown-up" apartment together, both Charles and Katie's individual bonds with Zoe have only grown. To be honest, Zoe could easily fit on either side of us at the alter, but Katie got to her first!

Elisabeth and Katie have been best friends for almost two decades (see this photo of them at the 2010 Justin Bieber "My World" tour for proof)! After two years of being in the same middle school class together, bonding over basement parties, late nights, and countless sleepovers, the two became more like sisters than best friends. Despite the expected ups and downs while literally growing up together (and Elisabeth abandoning Katie in Chicago to live a thriving life in LA), they always find their way back. Sometimes Charles jokes that he cannot understand either of them together, they seem to speak a different language at hypersonic speed. We are both so grateful to have her with us up there and couldn't imagine it any other way.

Trains/Buses

The <a href="https://www.amtrak.com/home.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Amtrak </a>train is a great form of transportation to Southwest Michigan from Chicago. Trains to the area tend to run around 6:30 PM daily from Union Station. If taking the train, please plan a carpool in advance to pick you up/drop you off. Trains sell out often so book your tickets ahead of time. As mentioned, there are few car services available in South Haven. The best form of transportation locally is by personal vehicle (or bike!) Welcome to Michigan Lake Life!) While Lyft and Uber do service the area, they can be unreliable at best. Your best bet with using them is to reserve one well in advance if needed.

Getting There

As of now, rooms at the Lake Bluff Inn are very limited.

If accommodations at the venue are booked, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for information on off-site booking options. 

Even if the rooms are full, ALL wedding guests, including those with off-site accommodations, are free to utilize the resort's amenities (such as pool, beach, etc.) at any time throughout the weekend.

If interested in on-site accommodations, you must call the venue to secure your room at 269-873-1629. When you call, press 1 for booking (if prompted) and make sure to specify with the front desk that you are a guest of the Katelyn Flood/Charles Becker Wedding. Do not press 2 as it will take you to wedding inquiries, not booking a room. There is a two-night (Friday and Saturday) minimum. Inquire with staff about pricing of any remaining available rooms. The entire venue is privately reserved for our party for the weekend, so guests will be unable to book accommodations online.

However, as mentioned above, all bookings must be made by calling 269-873-1629 and speaking to the booking staff. Thank you for your patience while reserving your stay at this family-owned property. Staffing is lower during the off season, especially outside of regular business hours. We recommend doing your best to book during the day (eastern standard time) for the smoothest booking process. If the venue is full, some guests have booked at the <a href="https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/baymont/south-haven-michigan/baymont-lighthouse-inn-and-conference-center/overview" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Baymont by Wyndham South Haven</a>, or there are other accommodations in South Haven and the surrounding area which you can <a href="https://www.southhaven.org/places-to-stay/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">find here</a>. For families or groups, there are also many short-term rental homes in the area on sites such as Airbnb and VRBO. We highly recommend booking off-site accommodations as soon as possible. Michigan vacation towns book up VERY QUICKLY for the summer season. As mentioned above, even if the rooms are full, ALL wedding guests (including those with off-site accommodations) are free to utilize the resort's amenities at any time Friday-Sunday.
